The United Nations General Assembly has declared the first Monday in October to be World Habitat Day. This is a time to recognize the basic need for adequate shelter in a world where it is lacking for so many.

See how Habitat and the community are honoring this important day and how you can help build houses for those in need:

1. UHV Students Volunteering
Saturday, Oct. 4

University of Houston-Victoria freshmen will be volunteering Saturday morning as part of a community service project.

2. Habifact Signs
Oct. 3-6

As you drive around town, look for signs with facts about Habitat and its important mission. Be sure to stop by the Habitat office (207 N. Glass St.) while you’re downtown over the weekend.

3. Youth United Raise the Roof

Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity Youth United members are raising $9,000 for the roof of the Youth United Build this spring. Here is how you can help support them:

  1. Picnic Table Raffle
    Oct. 3-4

The youth are raffling two handmade, hand-painted picnic tables. Tickets will be sold 6-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday at the Habitat office downtown (207 N. Glass St.). $5 for one or $20 for five. Stop by and get your raffle tickets while you’re downtown. Winners will be drawn on Monday, Oct. 6.
  2. Buffalo Wild Wings Fundraiser
    11 a.m.–12 a.m. | Sunday, Oct. 5

Print this BWW ticket. Present it at the restaurant and a portion of your bill will be donated to the Youth United fundraiser. Dine in or Carry Out.
