Makes A Difference

Volunteer

By volunteering with Habitat, you can be a part of the change you want to see in your community.

We offer several opportunities to build or repair homes with families, as well as volunteer work at the Habitat ReStore, or on a committee. You can even invite your friends and family to join us.

Because of the help of people like you, whole neighborhoods improve and completely transform. Through this transformation, families achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life.

Together, we can build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

What to bring to a Habitat work-site

     Sturdy closed-toe shoes (no sandals)
     Hat
     Sunscreen
Lunch (if one is not being provided)
     A friend to help

Safety Rules

Volunteers are required to be on site by 7:45 a.m. in order to attend the day’s safety instructions and job assignments. Safety instructions are given for the equipment being used on a particular day.

All volunteers must sign a Release and Waiver Form before working on site. If you have not already submitted a form to the office, you may complete the form when you check in at the site.

Hard hats must be worn for any overhead construction work.

Safety goggles must be worn when operating equipment such as saws and drills. Protective work clothing is recommended. Construction sites are family-oriented; please dress accordingly. Alcohol and drugs are not permitted on the job site. Anyone under the influence will be sent home.

No verbal abuse, physical abuse or discrimination is allowed on the job site. If anyone is the victim of such abuse, it must be reported immediately. We ask that you be considerate of other workers at all times.

Any injuries must be reported immediately to the construction supervisor or crew leader.

Community Service

We do accept court-ordered or school-required community service volunteers on our construction sites during normal work hours.

If your service is court-ordered, there are some restrictions. We have people under certain types of court supervision who may not be able to work at these times. Please also note that we are unable to provide Community Service opportunities for people convicted of violent crimes. When you call to arrange Community Service, you will need to tell us why it was ordered.

To inquire about Community Service, you must contact the Volunteer Coordinator before beginning work. We will be happy to provide verification of your hours, but you will be responsible for keeping track of your time on site and requesting verification.

We Provide

     Water
     Snacks (limited)
     Tools/tool belt
     Work gloves
     Hard hat
     Safety goggles
     Ear plugs

Age Requirements

You must be at least 16 years of age to work on regular Habitat for Humanity construction projects (insurance requirements). At times, there is limited work available for younger teens to do less dangerous activities, such as painting. If you would like to inquire about bringing younger teens, you must contact the Habitat office to find out if there is appropriate work available. Children under the age of 12 cannot participate in construction activities, and should be kept clear of the work areas.
